Under the scorching South African sun, this residence, designed by architectural firm SAOTA, overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. Built on a steep slope, the home is composed of an arrangement of staggered blocks that rise along the side of the mountain, thus providing privacy to the upper floors and shielding them from street-level noise. A unique vertical slatted box hovers over the terrace while letting the trees grow to the second storey. Just like blinds, these slats can be opened or closed, thus controlling the amount of sunlight let into the home.
