Ultramodern Australia

Designed by SAOTA, this gorgeous Australian home is set in a cove along one of Sydney’s beaches. The façade is a collection of planes made from a mixture of wood, plaster, and architectural Kaynemaileâ sail screens. These chain mail screens provide protection from the sun and privacy from the road. The entrance hall serves as a link between the two wings of the U-shaped house, and the adjacent black staircase is wrapped protectively in a cloak of timber louvres that match the wood-clad soffit and some of the interior and exterior walls. The gentle curve of the staircase contrasts with the right angles of the home.
